Owned and operated by Dave and Rachael Lay, Z Cars is a local business, run by locals.
After 25 plus years in the motor industry, Dave Lay decided to take his wealth of experience in the motor industry and do things his way. With his wife Rachael supporting him in running the business, Z Cars was born.
Dave is passionate about his customers and giving them the best service, providing a no-pressure environment and making sure that every customer drives away happy and satisfied not only with their purchase, but with the experience they had making that purchase.

Dave Lay – Sales Manager/Owner
Dave is our Sales Manager and the friendly face you’re likely to meet first at Z Cars.
Dave has worked in a number of vehicle dealerships during his 25 plus years in car sales, both locally, and in Christchurch and in the UK prior to immigrating to New Zealand, including managing large corporate lease agreements for Nissan UK.
When he’s not busy selling cars and buying awesome new stock you’ll find Dave enjoying time relaxing with his kids or keeping an eye on anything football (just ask him about his goal against Tottenham if you have time to kill) 😉
Rachael Lay – Managing Director
Rachael focuses on the operations side of the business handling the strategy, accounting, marketing, legal and other operational aspects of the business.
With over 15 years of executive level positions in the corporate world, Z Cars has been a welcome and refreshing change, where being able to spend more time with our customers has been a highlight.
Downtime for Rachael is spent with her kids, knitting, quilting, gardening, reading and running her own small business selling hand dyed yarn.
Leanne Luscombe – Admin
Leanne is our part time administration assistant, dealing with the all important paperwork and general admin that we produce with every sale.
She dots the i’s, crosses the t’s and does a great job of helping to make sure we do things by the book, as well as handling customer enquiries and making sure the office is clean and tidy.
In her spare time Leanne enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, relaxing and supporting her husbands football teams.
Nathan joined us approximately one year ago in the Sales role. Having previously managed Coffee Culture Rangiora he is a well known face to many and brings with him an established background in customer service.
Away from work, Nathan likes to get involved with the odd bit of community theatre or spend quality time with friends and family, going on adventures or having a quiet one in with the guys.
